Budget 2022: Summa Highlights & Analysis

< 1

Budget 2022 has finally landed.

Equipped with a fresh pair of L’Intervalle pumps, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Chrystia Freeland tabled her new, slimmer fiscal plan in the House of Commons today. Although there were more MPs in their seats the last time she delivered a budget, the complicated context surrounding the annual release hasn’t subsided.

COVID-19 is still with us – with no end in sight. There’s a major war in Ukraine. Canadians are grappling with inflation and affordability issues from housing to feeding their families. And the NDP now has formal influence and a parliamentary role, supporting the governing Liberals.

On top of that, the Conservatives are in the middle of a leadership contest and Canadians appear to be increasingly divided on what direction the country should take post-pandemic.

We’ve provided you with a look at the major highlights in each section of today’s budget, and an overall analysis of what it means for the major federal parties and for Canada.
