Today, the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, the Hon. Elizabeth Dowdeswell, delivered the Speech from the Throne to begin the second session of the 42nd Parliament.
The Throne Speech was an opportunity for the Ford government to outline their priorities for the next eight months in advance of next June’s election.
Premier Ford made it clear that his government is focused primarily on the province’s ongoing fight against COVID-19. The speech highlighted the work that the government has already taken over the last 18-months responding to the pandemic, while announcing new investments in the healthcare sector. The Speech also addressed the government’s commitment to economic and fiscal recovery, noting investments in infrastructure to spur additional economic activity and growth for the province. Many of these investments will be detailed further in the government’s upcoming Fall Economic Statement and the final budget of Ford’s mandate next spring.
